The authors report of an outbreak of acute food poisoning by vibrio parahemolyticus after ingestion of salted sea crab (Protunus tribuberculatus) in August 1977. The number of total patients was 105 male students age from 24 to 30 in a school dormitory. The incubation period were estimated about 6 to 20 hours, mean 12.7 hours. The main symptoms of illness were abdominal pain(82.9%), diarrhea(81.9 %), vomiting(35.2%), chillness(16.2%), fever(11.4 %) headache(10.5%? dizziness(8.5%), dehydration (19.0%), abdominal tenderness(17. 4%) and tachycardia(3. 8%). The 21 of 105 students(20%) had sever symptoms to admitted to our hospital for the duration of 1 to 3 days. There was no dead case. The causative organisms were identified as v. parahemolyticus K 3, positive hemolysis test using Sakazaki modified media. This organisms were founded from 14 hospitalized patients and from some of left over salted sea crabs served previously.
